Digital Comics Club: Week 1!

And so, it begins! DCCS HQ is closed, and the team are working from home. For our first week, we’re starting with some basics – the bread and butter of comics making, if you will. What goes into a comic? What is it made of? Our DCCS mascots will show you!

What Makes a Comic?

DCC-Week-1

What do you think happened to Hamish above?

Was he being chased by a dinosaur? Was he trying to escape the wrath of an angry sibling? Did he get scared by the sound of the washing machine? Also, more importantly, how did he escape?!

It’s completely up to you! As the artist, you control what is seen and what is left to the imagination. You can also control…

Panel shapes!

DCC-Week-1a

As Caticorn*  points out, panels can be all shapes and sizes! How many panels do you want on a page? Do different shapes work better than others? What could a star panel be used for? Play around with different things, and have fun!

*Caticorn was designed by Sen, one of our young comics makers!

COVID-19 Update

Workshop-News-File-copy

The health and wellbeing of our young people and facilitators are our top priority, so we will be suspending our Tuesday and Wednesday Comic Clubs until further notice. This is following current University of Dundee policy on coronavirus, based on advice from the Scottish Government and the NHS.

However, that doesn’t mean the fun stops! We will be posting our weekly comics activities and workshop materials online. Stayed tuned for Digital Comics Club!

Laydeez are doing CRIMEZ!

Come spend time with fellow comics enthusiasts as we work together to commit… we mean, solve a crime.

For the first Laydeez Do Comics Dundee event of 2020 there will be a talk by Dr. Laura Findlay on her work with crime comics, followed by a comic making workshop that involves a crime scene, and a wine reception with nibbles as per usual.

Friday 13 March 2020 from 6-9pm

We hope to see you there!
