Acclaimed comics artist, and the UK’s Comics Laureate, Charlie Adlard will be in Dundee at 6pm on Friday 10th November 2017 to give a talk on his career, and his work as Comics Laureate.
Charlie is best known as the artist of the hugely successful comic, The Walking Dead, which has been adapted into a massively popular television series. He has also worked on comics such as 2000AD, The X-Files, and various titles for both Marvel and DC.
The event, which is open to the public, will start and 6pm in Dundee Comics Creative Space and will take the form of a Q&A session, chaired by Professor Chris Murray, followed by a wine reception. This special event accompanies the exhibition ‘Girls in Print: Female Figures in British Comics’, which explores the surprising range of subjects covered by the girls’ comics which were at their height in the 1960s and 70s.
TOM GAULD: BAKING WITH KAFKA Friday 20th October, 6pm Noted as a ‘book-lover’s cartoonist’, Tom Gauld’s weekly strips in The Guardian stitch together the worlds of literary criticism and pop culture to create brilliantly executed, concise comics.

In the fight for the public’s attention, why let public interest get in the way? Join writer and illustrator Hannah and Creative Scotland’s Sasha de Buyl in conversation about this parable for the Trump era, satire and the revolutionary potential of the graphic novel.
JUTE, JAM & JACKIE with Gayle Anderson & Shona Main Saturday 21st October, 5.30pm
Jackie magazine – though it folded almost 25 years ago – is still a legend in the world of publishing. Today, in the same D. C. Thomson Meadowside offices where the magic happened, journalist Gayle Anderson and filmmaker Shona Main revisit the time, the place and their experiences as young women – just a few years older than their readers – shaping the teenage sensibilities of a nation. Advice on spots, boyfriends, bad friends and bodily functions will be on offer if and where required.
Here at DCCS we are celebrating Small Press Day on Saturday 8th July between 12-3pm with a comic and zine fair. Our young Comics Clubbers have been working super hard making new comics and we will be launching Da Awesome Comic: Comics Club Comic Strips volume 2. But that is not all! Below is a sneak peak of the individual zine-style comics that will also be on sale, don’t they look amazing?!? Which ones will you buy?
Happy Holidays everyone! The Comics Clubs at DCCS are taking a summer break so there will be no weekly workshops until 15th August. We will be doing occasional one-off workshops with community groups in Dundee over the summer and we will post the details on our website when we have them – watch this space!

Saturday 8th July is Small Press Day 2017. This is a celebration of self-publishing, DIY culture, and grassroots comics across the U.K and Ireland.
DCCS is taking part by hosting a comic and zine fair from 12-3pm. We will be launching Volume 2 of our Comics Club Comic Strips anthology, with lots of great stories from the young people who attend our after school clubs. You will also have the chance to pick up some individual zine-style comics made by our Comics Clubbers. Come along and meet the next generation of superstar comic creators – we are putting the small into small press! We look forward to seeing you there!
Patience Goes Uphill is an illustrated children’s book commissioned by The Uphill Trust from Ink Pot artist Catriona Laird. The book launch is on Thursday April 20th 6.30pm at DCCS and the event will include a talk by the author/artist and you will be able to find out about the work of The Uphill Trust who are supporting Uphill Junior School in western Uganda. There will also be a mini market run by PopDundee selling jewellery and comics, with proceeds going to help Uphill Junior School. For more details see the FB event page.
We are very pleased to welcome Tom Foster as a guest to this afternoon’s Comics Club. He will be showing our young creators how he puts together his comics pages. He is currently working for 2000AD among others – check out his first 2000AD cover featuring Judge Dredd from earlier this year!
